Take a Gap Year?

We are living in a world of opportunity, but only a few is dare to take a step on a different road, to look for different possibilities in life.

Don't know if you ever think 'bout take a gap year in university or even drop it. What exactly will you do if you really have such chance? A twin brothers from UK has a very inspiring story.

Jack and Finn Harries are English vlogger and YouTube celebrities. In July 2011, Jack Harries started his own YouTube channel, JacksGap as a way of documenting his gap year for his family and friends after finishing sixth form.

Harries has expressed an interest in becoming a television presenter and in September 2012, he began studying drama, television and film at the University of Bristol, while his twin brother, Finn, was studying graphic design at the University of Leeds. After their first term at university, both twins decided to leave to focus on their interests in making YouTube videos and travelling. The Harries twins have stated that they've made an agreement with their parents to return to university after a year if their plans do not go as expected.

In April 2012, JacksGap hit 10,000 subscribers and Harries was invited to become a YouTube Partner. The revenue generated from his channel was reportedly double what he had previously earned at his retail job at Apple and enabled him to travel during his gap year.

In February 2013, JacksGap reached one million subscribers, and that June, he reached the two million milestone. On 12 June 2013, exactly two years after its creation, JacksGap hit two million subscribers.

Since the channel had grown faster than they had ever imagined it would. they took a risk delaying university to nurture the little brand that they’d created. JacksGap has now grown as a team of people that runs it.

In 2013 they launched jacksgap.com as a place to host the additional content they were creating.

Every year JacksGap and the community embark a campaign to help raise awareness for causes we admire. We share their story through video and encourage others to support them by focusing on the positive stories that surround these organisations.

In 2013, they drove across India in three rickshaws with six friends to raise awareness and funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The campaign raised $180,000 over six weeks. Since then they’ve committed to continuing to raise funds and awareness for causes they care about.

Last year, they did a collaboration with Skype, making ‘Following Heart’ - a three part series of short films that document three individual women. Each one of them are empowered through technology to do what they’re passionate about.


I wish I could join their team and work on those meaningful projects. I would rather go around the world and visit different interesting people, than just finish a degree and working in an office like a machine day by day.
